  • Hok Mountain Packages

    From: $319.62

We have put the Hok Mountain Package together based on our rather unexpected use (and pleasure) of the Hok for more mountain and downhill skiing.  This peaked  on a backcountry hut trip in British  Columbia where a bunch of us went out the last day with Hoks and about 16 inches of new cold snow.  There was a lot of shorter terrain near the lodge that we were restricted to because of time, so the Hoks made sense as the turnaround was so quick. We all used Tiaks, the single poles used by skiers in the Altai mountains and used by all skiers (yes, all) before the 20th century. The Tiaks give the rather short Hoks excellent fore/aft stability, something short skis generally lack. Turning and skiing  was effortless and SO MUCH FUN…..What the Package includes:

    – The Hok ski, either in the 125cm or the 145cm length.

    – Our Voile HD 3pin binding with all screws and custom heel pieces to fit the threaded inserts in the Hoks (no drill mounting).

    – A Tiak (single pole) either Medium (6ft.) or Large (7 ft.).

Normal price for this combination  would be $365.65(with the Tiak shipping cost). Package price is $319.62

    – Add the Alpina Montana boots

Normal non package price would be $550.64 (with Tiak shipping cost). Package price is $486.11

    – Add the Alpina Alaska boots

Normal non package price would be $615.64(with Tiak shipping cost). Package price is $544.87

    – Add the Scott Excursion Boots

Normal non package price would be $645.85 (with Tiak shipping cost). Package price is $576.97

    – Add the Scarpa T4 Boots

Normal non package price would be $757.60(with Tiak shipping cost). Package price is $687.57

All package prices includes shipping –  we waive the normal $8 dollar oversized box charge for the Tiaks in this package.

To add a boot click on the  X in front of the “Add” to make that model part of the package. This will give you the drop down menu of sizes.

  • Kōm Ski

    $419.95

The Kōm is a ski we have been working on for a few years, and the idea of it goes back to the start of Altai Skis. It’s a dedicated backcountry ski without many of the usual compromises. The Kōm can be skied with a downhill focus and it rises to lighter XCD touring use with a fun, stable feel.

  • Tiak

    $41.75

We cut a number of poles this summer and fall, and have been seasoning them since. They are then hand peeled, trimmed, sculpted, and branded (literally). We then finish them with a light linseed oil and a strap at the top. They are very strong and handy to have on any winter adventure in the woods or mountains.  We will offer a 1 year warrantee on them, and look forward to getting people to try this ancient but incredibly functional and intuitive style of skiing.

  • Alpina Alaska 75mm (3 pin) boots

    $249.99
  • Alpina Montana 75mm (3 pin) boots

    $184.99
  • Scott Excursion Boots

    $300.00

I first got a pair of Excursions when they came out about 15 years ago. They were one of the first light 2 buckle tele boots with a strong touring emphasis, and remain so today. Garmont has since sold their ski boot division to Scott, so what was formerly the Garmont Excursion is now the Scott Excursion. They have wisely kept the boot close to the original, with some minor changes in style, buckles and the tongue, which is stiffer then the original. This improves the overall flex of the boot, particularly in the toe bellows. Weight of the Excursion compared to the Scarpa T4 is quite close with the Excursion being a few ounces lighter (depending on size). The Excursions are a bit higher volume fit as well. The Scott boot shells change on the 1/2 size so 28 – 28.5  are the same shell size. Scarpas break on the whole size, so a 28.5 and a 29 would be the same shell size. Both the T4s and the Excursions are ideal for more aggressive bc touring and skiing, ideal for the Koms and for the more aggressive Hoks skiers that are cropping up these days.

  • Universal Pivot Binding

    $174.95
  • 3 Pin Binding (75 mm) – includes Heel Kit

    $75.95

75mm binding (3 pin) with custom heel pieces and screws. The bindings are made by Voile and customize with our logo. We also include all machine screws (M6) needed to attach the binding and the heel pieces. The heel piece is design for the Hok, and can rotate between 3 inserts to fit any size 75mm (3 pin) boot.

  • 3 Pin Heel Piece Kit

    $19.95

We are big fans of the 3 pin (75mm ) system. This boot binding combination is sturdy, offers great ski control, is light, and tours really well. They are also plentiful and inexpensive. If you have some classic old leather Asolos or Merrells (or Fabiano’s, Scarpas, Heierlings, Alicos…) and some 3 pins, Hoks are a great way to put them to use. This year we are offering a Heel Piece Kit. The kit includes the custom heel pieces, designed to use inserts in the ski for no drill mounting, and adjustable to fit any size 3 pin boot. Along with the heel pieces, all the machine screws for mounting your 3 pins are included, along with a packet of threadlocker to keep the screws from loosening in the inserts. Screw size is M6 (6 mm) and lengths are 16 mm for the heel pieces and 12 mm for the toe pieces. This is an inexpensive and effective way to get going on a pair of Hoks.

  • Climbing Wire for custom heel pieces

    $9.50

These climbing wires fit with our custom no drill heel pieces that are used with the 3pin or 3pin cable bindings. Like the heel pieces, the wires are adjustable to fit all boot sizes. There are 3 slots in the base of the heel piece as well as the two positions (via the inserts) for the heel pieces on the Hok. The heel wire adds about 15mm in height.

  • 3 Pin Cable 75mm Binding

    $142.95

I have been using the 3 pin cable since it came out in the 1980s. The binding is light, sturdy and reliable. One can tour with it in the free flexing 3pin mode (either unbuckle the cables or take them off),or lock in the cables for the more secure and powerful downhill mode. Add to this a double attachment for increased reliability in the backcountry and a weight of only 12 oz per ski and you have the ideal backcountry binding. We highly recommend this for the Kōm ski.

If you plan to use the 3 pin cable on the Hoks please specify in the note section of your order and we will substitute the heel kit with the appropriate M6 screws for the inserts.

  • Adapter Plate

    $34.95

The Adapter Plate lets you mount Salomon BC (XAdventure) and Rottefella NNN BC(Magnum) bindings on the Hoks without drilling the skis.  The adapter plates come with the  screws for mounting the plate  to the Hoks. Manufacturer supplied binding screws mount the binding to the plate.

The plates can also be used for other bindings like the Berwins.

  • Ski Strap

    $6.50

15″ski strap made by Voile with the Altai Skis logo  on it. They were orange and are now bright green, so they are easy to find in the snow! These are the best ski straps going and we keep a few of them in our backcountry kit for all purpose strapping, repair, first aid… they are very handy.

  • Scarpa T4 Boots

    $399.95

Scarpa introduced the T4 a few years ago and it caught our attention immediately  for its light weight and tour friendly design. I bought a pair for my girlfriend Lisa, and she loved the fit and feel right out of the box. I had a chance to test them last year as well, and found them light (for an all plastic boot) and comfortable to ski and tour in. Downhill control with the 145 Hoks was more then enough and in testing the T4 with our new ski, the Kōm, it seemed a near perfect fit. Francois and I went back and forth on the pros and cons of carrying boots (lots of sizes…)and decided it was such a good match for the Kōm, as well as for the more adventurous Hok users, we would go for it.

  • Lined Elkskin Leather Gloves

    $59.75

If you are out in the snow a lot and really using your gloves, digging, clearing trails, firewood…. good leather is the only thing that holds up. I have been using these gloves for close to 10 years and find them the most durable and well made gloves around. The leather is thick but supple and the fit is really excellent. They are quite warm, with a thick pile lining, ideal for a day out exploring on the Hoks. The gloves are made in Centralia WA by Churchill Glove Co. and are customized to our design. They are also branded with our AS logo. Available in XS – XL.
