Description
Scarpa introduced the T4 a few years ago and it caught our attention immediately for its light weight and tour friendly design. I bought a pair for my girlfriend Lisa, and she loved the fit and feel right out of the box. I had a chance to test them as well, and found them light (for an all plastic boot) and comfortable to ski and tour in. Downhill control with the 145 Hoks was more than enough and in testing the T4 with our new ski, the Kōm, it seemed a near perfect fit. Francois and I went back and forth on the pros and cons of carrying boots (lots of sizes…)and decided it was such a good match for the Kōm, as well as for the more adventurous Hok users, we would go for it.
- The T4 is a 2 buckle boot, more than enough for the skishoeing XCD style of skiing our skis are designed for.
- We have found the T4 fairly true to size and the last seems to be a medium width. They can be customized by heating and custom fitting the liner as it is a Intuition thermofit liner. Since I first discovered these thermofit liners in the 1990s I have used them in all my double boots.
- Toe flex is good, an important feature for touring and for tele turns.
- There is a forward lean lock on the T4 of 16°
The T4 is sized using the Mondo sizing system and we have added a chart from Scarpa to translate that into real world shoe sizes.
Of note – the shell sizes are a whole and a half size. With Scarpa a 27.5 and a 28 are the same shell. This is reflected in their linked size chart. Size adjustment is made with the liner and foot bed. With a thermofit liner you can adjust to fit either size to your foot.
Touring Tip – When I tour in the T4s I flip the top buckle open. The ratchet strap is still in the buckle but the buckle is not closed. I also do not lock the forward lean lever on the cuff. Works great !
